The warlock’s tower

Inspired by Dyson Logos’ recent post, I’ve decided to do my take on a tower by the sea.

I’ve added an adventure hook as well, so I hope you like it!

The Warlock's Lair

Lore/Background:

The tower by the sea is cursed, it is! Stay away if you don't want to be sacrificed to the unholy sea gods the hermit worships!

When you travel three days south from the fishing village, and keep to the coastline, you may find some jagged rocks, and what looks like a tower on a small cliff close to shore. A small rope bridge connects the rocks to what it seems an entrance which goes inside the rocks themselves. The cliff is surrounded by fog at almost all times, so even those with keep sight cannot be sure where the brdige leads.

There is, however, a cave entrance just north of the tower, when the rocks meet the coastline. The sounds of wind echo inside, and few may dare to enter.  Inside, one can find tunnels that seem to lead to multiple caverns, and none if them seem made by humanoids. At least not by the good races.

Those brave enough to enter and skilled to navigate the caverns will soon enough find an exit, overlooking the cliff. And indeed, there is a rope bridge that connects the two.

It seems that the rumors were true, because there is indeed a tower, leaning on the western edge of the cliff. Two pillars stand before the entrance, each now green with moss and seaweed at their bases, but other than that, they look made from a smooth stone, like marble.

Inside the tower, adventurers can encounter the hermit, who delves in eldritch lore and forsaken magics. Indeed, the sole resident of the tower is devoted to a “slumbering god” as he states, and is very skeptical to other people.

Adventure hook #1

The party is tipped off that the warlock hermit holds an old tome containing a summoning spell needed by the noble who hired the adventurers. The noble is certain that the tower exists, and will pay handsomely to get this tome. The warlock does not want to part with it.

Adventure hook #2

If the party has a warlock, their patron wants the warlock to eliminate all competitor patrons by killing their servants. The party warlock is given a vision to the relative location of the tower. The warlock can have the same patron as the hermit, but there can only be one true follower.
